چکیده

Background 3D cine displacement encoding with stimulated echoes (DENSE) directly encodes tissue displacement into MR phase data, providing a comprehensive 3D view of cardiac motion and strain. Unfortunately, 3D cine DENSE motion analysis presently requires manually delineated anatomy. An automated analysis would reduce interobserver variability, improve measurement throughput, and simplify data interpretation. This research develops the first fully automated solution for the estimation of myocardial mechanics from 3D cine DENSE data.

Estimating 3D Strain from 4D Cine-MRI and Echocardiography: In-Vivo Validation

The quantitative estimation of regional cardiac deformation from 3D image sequences has important clinical implications for the assessment of myocardial viability. The validation of such image-derived estimates, however, is a non-trivial problem as it is very difficult to obtain ground truth. In this work we present an approach to validating strain estimates derived from 3D cine-Magnetic Resona...

Quantifying right ventricular motion and strain using 3D cine DENSE MRI

Background The RV is difficult to image because of its thin wall, asymmetric geometry and complex motion. DENSE is a quantitative MRI technique for measuring myocardial displacement and strain at high spatial and temporal resolutions [1,2]. DENSE encodes tissue displacement directly into the image phase, allowing for the direct extraction of motion data at a pixel resolution. A free-breathing n...

Physically-Constrained Diffeomorphic Demons for the Estimation of 3D Myocardium Strain from Cine-MRI

Analysing heart motion provides crucial insights on the condition of the cardiac function. Tagged-MRI and 2D-strain ultrasound enable quantitative assessment of the myocardium strain. But estimating 3D myocardium strain from cine-MRI remains attractive: cine-MRI is widely available and it yields detailed 3D+t anatomical images. This paper presents an image-based method to estimate myocardium st...

Cardiac Motion Recovery and Boundary Conditions Estimation by Coupling an Electromechanical Model and Cine-MRI Data

We present a method for cardiac motion recovery using the adjustment of an electromechanical model of the heart to cine MRI. This approach is based on a proactive model which consists in a constrained minimisation of an energy coupling the model and the data. The presented method relies on specific image features in order to constrain the motion of the endocardia and epicardium and impose bound...

Myocardial Motion Estimation from Cardiac Cine-mri with a Phase-based Optical Flow Method

Introduction: The aim of this study was to estimate myocardial motion directly from a conventional SSFP (steady-state free precession) cine-MRI sequence. This sequence provides precise morphological information coupled with an adequate temporal resolution and excellent contrast between structures. We propose to use information naturally present in SSFP Cine-MRI for myocardial motion estimation....
